The Norman Williams Story — “Why I Got A Reverse Mortgage”

When I turned 62 a couple of years ago, I considered options available to me through the HUD/FHA Reverse Mortgage program. From the time I built my home, I had seen it appreciate in value. With the state of the economy as it has been over the past few years and real estate values declining, I decided my home would not be gaining much value over the next 10 years or so. My career has been in Financial Planning and Real Estate, so I have access to different investments and product comparisons which I use for clients and myself. In reviewing the options available, it was evident that I could use my equity more efficiently with a Reverse Mortgage and invest the TAX FREE proceeds. This meant I could almost double the proceeds over the next 10 years by investing my available equity! My home was not going to gain in value that much over the next 10 years. I did not want my home equity to be “dead” equity used by a banker making money off of my home equity. Why shouldn’t I use my own equity through the Reverse Mortgage to improve my financial position? It is comforting for me to know that the money I worked hard for and used to pay off my home mortgage now affords me the advance of equity through the Reverse Mortgage. Now I can make investments and buy a T-bone steak on Friday nights! I always plan to retire in style.
